In the spotlight

Dear teachers,
Do you understand your student before take action??

Give a chance for them to explain, and give a chance for you to understand..
Sometimes even teachers did wrong..but why just teacher judge the student, then who judge the teacher??...

think about it...have a change for yourself..maybe the air in school will be more harmoni...

Sometimes, when faced with unbearable grief, a person’s true character shines through.

WHEN my father died following a heart attack three years ago, at the age of just 54, our family was in a state of total shock and grief for a while.

However much I would like to tell the story of my beloved dad, I would like to share today the story of how a tough lady, whom I love equally as much, managed to bounce back from a state of despair into life again within a short time. She is my mum.

THE Kuala Lumpur Amateur Boxing Association (KLABA) and the Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur North have embarked on an ambitious programme to groom boxers.

They have picked SMK La Salle in Petaling Jaya to launch their pilot programme. And surprisingly, the interest among students has been encouraging.

SMK La Salle principal A. Rajenthran said they were receptive to KLABA and the Rotary Club's proposal as boxing was an interesting and exciting sport.

About 150 students, aged between 13 to16, have signed up for the lessons held twice a week.

THE boys (and some girls and teachers) were at it again. The students of SMK La Salle, Petaling Jaya, together with the school staff, former students and the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) held its annual canteen-cum-family day with the usual revelry and carnival-like atmosphere on Sunday.

The event is an effort by the students and teachers to raise funds to improve the facilities of the school.

Despite the heavy showers, the event went on full swing, with food stalls briskly set up and game stalls well under way.

According to principal A. Rajenthran, more stalls were set up this year than the average 70 stalls yearly.

La Sallian lessons for life

THE year was 1951 and I had just completed a short stint in a kindergarten run by the Catholic nuns. After that, my father enrolled me in St Georges Institution of Taiping, on the advice of the then parish priest of St Louis Catholic church, Father Noel Clement.

Coming from a staunch Muslim family, his move might have seemed odd to many. But my father was firm in his conviction that only a Christian education could shape me into a disciplined citizen.

My father had come to Malaya from India in the early 1940s. Back home, he had seen how the Christian schools were run by the nuns and missionaries. So, he was determined that my elder sister, I and another sibling should go through this same system.

Make teaching interesting

I studied in SJK(C) La Salle, SK Seri Setia, and I’m now studying in SMK Sri Sentosa. I can see that different teachers use different methods to teach.

For example, the English Language teacher in my present school Yap Wen Sin uses an interesting method of teaching.

She discusses the answers with us before we write them in our exercise books. By doing this, we have less red marks in our books. There is always laughter in the class and everyone pays attention and enjoys her lesson.
